How to convert from WAV or MP3 to a Voice Ring Tone....
Info, converter, player, etc
can be found at .... Yamaha
SMAF Global Website They have a Tools
Page with the software available for download. However, you will
need additional software to edit your WAV or MP3 to get it into the acceptable
format in preparation for conversion. CoolEdit or the like is good.
According to their Phone
compatibilty chart the Moto T720 CDMA supports MA-3 LSI. It appears
the T730 also supports this. PLEASE NOTE:
the T720 GSM is NOT listed on that site under MA-1, MA-2 or MA-3.
While ALL the MIDI and iMelody ring tones that work on my T730 CDMA do work on
a friend's AT&T Wireless T720 GSM, the
voice ringers DO NOT. I am told this is because the
T720/T730 CDMA phone uses a Qualcom chipset and the T720 GSM Does not. So
the GSM phone is NOT capable of using the "voice" style ring tones.
You will want the WSC-MA2-SMAF (available on the Yamaha Tools
Page) to convert from Wave to SMAF that can be loaded
onto your phone. Read the included PDF file on the limits of the WAV file
before you begin. In general, Wav/MP3s to be converted into RingTones must be
MONO, 16bit Audio Sample Size, and 4 or 8kHz Sample Rate for the convert to work.
Improperly formatted WAVs will FAIL to convert.
You basically launch the WSC-MA2-SMF.EXE, drag/drop the properly formatted WAV file onto it, and it
outputs a .MMF file that you can drop onto the phone. (if you use EMS Manager
and PST, you need to rename the .MMF file to .MID to get it into EMS Manager so
you can load it on the phone with PST.)
To play it back on the PC, use the DirectPlay option in the ATS-MA3-SMAF tool
(separate download from the Yamaha Tools
Page). Or you can search the web for PSMPlay 3.80e or MMFPlayer
BTW, I have used this to convert several WAVs to ringers for use on my Moto T730
CDMA (Verizon). Any MP3s that I started with I saved as WAV when I
converted them to MONO, 16bit/8kHZ, so I have not tired dropping a MP3 onto the
WSC-MA2-SMAF program.
